The Savusavu Town Council Building Department of 2021 was headed by the Council’s Manager of Planning and Development; Mr. Nilesh Chand along with the Building & Environment Officer-Ms. Gwynneth Chan. A relatively small team involved in the process and the undertaking of Building, Rezoning and Subdivision applications from within the Savusavu Town Boundary, Savusavu Extended areas including the province of Bua and the Taveuni Boundary. The small yet efficient team also carried out aspects of the building department such as surveys, logistics, maintenance works and also awareness. Processing of Building/Rezoning/Subdivision Applications
The graph below showcases the total number of applications that have been received by the Council from the various boundaries from the months of January to July, 2021 that the Council is responsible of.
For all the building, rezoning and subdivision applications received from applicants from the various boundaries. Time frames have been allocated for each in which these are processed however these may vary from application to application depending on whether additional documents and consultations are required through the stages of processing.
Household Surveys
Household surveys are conducted by the building department primarily for the gathering of information and data on informal settlements that were established on land that is owned by the Council. These areas are namely known as the Nakama Stage 2 and the Nakama Stage 3 informal settlements respectively and have fluctuating populations due to the migration and relocation of the temporary occupants.
